Carpet Cleaning

Commercial carpet cleaners, residential carpet cleaners and upholstery and rug cleaners usually carry out work using either hot water extraction (HWE), low moisture (buffing) or dry powder cleaning techniques. The Wessex Maintenance team use the first two mentioned techniques.

Wessex Maintenance offer commercial and residentail carpet cleaning throughout Bournemouth, Southampton, Ringwood, Christchurch, Southbourne, Poole and wider areas of Dorset and Hampshire.

Though the first technique is commonly called “Steam Cleaning”, no actual steam is involved in the (HWE) cleaning process, apart from steam that may escape from time to time when the water is heated and when the cleaning solution comes in contact with the carpet/rug. The carpet cleaning solution is pre-mixed with water in the machine and when deployed can be anywhere between 50-120 degrees Celsius. Powr-Flite-PFX1085EPH-2-carpet-cleaning-machineAfter this solution has penetrated the fibres of the carpet it is also removed by the machine operator via the “wand” tool leaving the carpets clean but slightly damp. If required in areas of heavy traffic the carpet can be pre-treated with additional stain removing chemicals / stain spotters to ensure that carpets are cleaned to the best possible standard.  Carpet cleaning machines of this type can also be used for cleaning upholstery such as sofas or car seats and even mattresses and curtains. All of these services are offered by Wessex Maintenance please see our price guide for more details.

The typical cleaning method used by Wessex Maintenance ltd involves a preconditioning of the soiled surface with an alkaline (7 or above on the pH Scale) agent, followed by light agitation with a grooming brush and appropriate time for the agent to work. Next, the surface is passed over several times with a cleaning tool (wand) to thoroughly rinse out the pre-conditioner and, using an acetic acid solution, lower the pH of the fibres to a neutral state. Finally, the surface is allowed to air dry sufficiently to avoid any possibility of saturation.

The second technique our carpet cleaners use is quite revolutionary especially for the commercial market, hotels and large shops or offices that require a shorter drying time for carpets prefer this method as shorter drying time means the space can be used for its original purpose faster and this is more productive and profitable. Low moisture carpet cleaning is accomplished by soaking special pads in a tank filled with hot cleaning solution, the carpet is pre-treated with a cleaning agent and pads are then put through a wringer to remove excess solution as and when needed. The pads are then used with a floor buffing machine to remove the dirt deep from within the carpet. This method allows vast areas to be covered and greatly reduces carpet cleaning time compared to HWE.

This method of commercial carpet cleaning is best suited to short pile hard wearing carpets such as that used in offices, hotels and shops.carpet cleaners, commercial carpet cleaning, Bournemouth, Southampton
